Constructionline Gold — what it is, and why it matters
Anyone can call themselves a builder. Constructionline Gold is one of the few ways a client can check that somebody else has already looked at the paperwork behind the claim — and signed it off.
First, what Constructionline actually is
Constructionline is the UK's pre-qualification database for construction. Main contractors, housing associations, local authorities and property managers use it to check that a supplier is who they say they are, is financially sound, is properly insured, and runs its sites safely — before any work is awarded.
Instead of every client asking for the same folder of certificates, the checks are done once, independently, and kept up to date. Membership runs in tiers: Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum. Gold is the level most buyers specify.
What Gold is assessed against
Gold is built around the Common Assessment Standard — the industry-agreed question set developed by Build UK with Constructionline. It replaced PAS 91, which the British Standards Institution withdrew in 2023; Procurement Policy Note 03/24 pointed public bodies towards the Common Assessment Standard in its place.
In plain terms: it is the current benchmark, it is recognised across the industry, and it is assessed by someone other than us.
What gets checked
Health & safety
A full SSIP-accredited assessment. Signed policy with named responsibilities, site-specific risk assessments and method statements, COSHH assessments, a training matrix with expiry dates, and three years of accident and RIDDOR records.
Financial standing
Company identity, legal compliance and financial credibility, verified against full accounts. A client can see the business behind the quote is solvent.
Insurance
Insurance documents are uploaded and verified on the platform rather than taken on trust — so cover is confirmed current, not just claimed.
Environmental management
A director-approved environmental policy, reviewed annually, covering how work is carried out and waste is handled.
Quality management
A documented quality policy to the same standard — how work is checked, and what happens when something is not right.
Fairness, inclusion & respect
A mandatory policy, approved at director level and shown to be applied in recruitment, training and promotion — not just written down.
Anti-bribery & whistleblowing
Policies covering the Bribery Act 2010, how concerns are reported and investigated, and protection for anyone who raises one.
Data protection
A UK GDPR programme: data protection policy, privacy notice, how personal data is handled and how staff are trained on it.
The tiers, briefly
Bronze
Verified insurance documents and a simplified health & safety question set.
Silver
Bronze, plus corporate and professional standing — identity, financial credibility, legal compliance.
Gold Our level
Silver, plus the full Common Assessment Standard: verified SSIP health & safety, environmental, quality, fairness and inclusion, information security and Building Safety Act assessment.
Platinum
Gold, plus a one-day audit at the company's premises. No additional policies.
If you are a contractor or property manager
You can onboard us without running your own pre-qualification round. The health & safety assessment, financial checks and insurance verification are already done, independently, and visible on the platform. It removes a fortnight of chasing certificates before anyone picks up a tool.
We are also SSIP accredited and carry £5m public liability cover.
If this is your home
You will probably never log into Constructionline, and you do not need to. What it tells you is simpler: the same checks a housing association runs before letting a firm onto its estates have been run on us, by somebody independent, and we passed them.
It is the difference between a company that says it is insured and careful, and one that has had to prove it.
